Initially, I was looking for information or tutorials on how to make a blazer jacket. Despite a long search and reading many books I could not find what I was looking for. Then I came across Reza’s and Mowgli’s YouTube videos which turned out to be a full tailoring class for a bespoke jacket.
In these videos Reza and Mowgli explain and demonstrate in considerable detail what needs to be done to make a tailored blazer jacket, show exactly how it needs to be done, and explain why it needs to be done.
They also provide theory videos where they explain how to shape a three dimensional garment from a two dimensional cloth, or how sleeves and collars are constructed in the correct way and why. These videos were eye openers because this was completely new to me. Their condensed theories cannot be found anywhere else on the internet or in any of the usual books on pattern making. Watching these videos can make you feel their considerable tailoring experience.
Reza’s presentation and teaching skills are brilliant. The videos are excellent in quality. Never was anything out of focus; the sound is perfect. Reza and Mowgli take meticulous care on the scenery, be it frontal shots of Reza demonstrating sketches on the black board, or from above down to the work table where Reza show the entire tailoring process. His work bench is always clear and clean and only the things he needs are on it – no clutter!
The most amazing of all this is that the videos are free of charge. The entire classes are so good, I would even pay for it. Luckily, there is the option to make donations, which I have happily done; it’s worth it. The videos on YouTube come with occasional interruptions by commercials, but I think it is OK.
Reza and Mowgli sell their so-called Purple Box which is a bundle of all the materials in the right amount they are using in the class. The box arrived in no time; the content was complete and nicely wrapped together.
Although I know, that it is a lot of work to create all these professional lectures and videos, I wished they were produced faster.
I have no plans to become a professional tailor; I am sewing for fun and like to dress in self-made clothes. So far I have only sewn one blazer jacket from a commercially available pattern. But how to actually sew it was a different story with lots of mistakes and frustration. Had I only known International School of Tailoring before! But now with Reza’s and Mowgli’s videos I am entering into a completely new realm.
I can’t wait to see the remainder of the videos and I am looking forward to see their new projects come alive. Among other things they plan to make a bespoke pattern app which can help to create a bespoke pattern on one’s own or a client’s measures.
I can highly recommend Reza’s and Mowgli’s International School of Tailoring if anyone wants to learn how to professionally make a bespoke jacket.
Thank you to you both.
