I already have many of the materials that you outlined in your lesson but there are a few items that I still need to find. So I went to the local quilting shop to see what they have. Not much to tell you the truth. They do sell cotton batting in various weights. It is basically a light, fluffy cotton felt. Is that the same as the cotton wadding used for shoulder pads and sleeve heads? Would a lighter version be a suitable replacement for domette? I bought some once and remember it being very loosely woven, not like the brushed cottons used for shirts and such. Would any brushed cotton do?
I was also looking for a mark stitching thread with little luck. What weight (or is the thread that you offer in your Purple Box? I have some 30 wt cotton thread but it tightly twisted and smooth and doesn't like to stay put.
Lastly, I am wondering if you might provide us with a syllabus? A road map of sorts. I imagine that you have a vision for how all of this will play out, I like the big picture too.
As always, thanks
Is there also an Europian Shop you can recommend? Importing from USA (and also the UK now) is very expensive for me due to income taxes (I payed a €142 extra for my purple box)
Hello Matthew,
If the cotton batting is firm and thick, it can be suitable for shoulder pads. This also depends on what type of pad you'd want to make. Sleeve heads are usually made from synthetic wadding which holds its shape a lot longer and doesn't tear as easy as cotton wadding
You could use a lighter version of this batting as a substitute for Domette, but I would recommend you find a loosely woven, fluffy brushed cotton instead. This is not the same as brushed cotton used for shirts. Those are tightly woven. Cotton batting tears easily and can be quite hot.
Our marking thread is give or take 30wt in thickness but it's made from pure cotton. Its not finished to be smooth. I wouldn't worry much about the thickness of the thread but rather its raw finish.
Please visit Bias Bespoke or B Black and sons. I'm sure that they have what you're looking for.
As for a road map, absolutely! It'll soon be on our website.

Reza, could you also provide a materials list. I live in Italy and I can find almost everything, at the moment I couldn't find the waxed thread, have you got any suggestions where to buy it?
Grazie and take care
